Anti-Bribery and Corruption Sentiment on a Global Scale

While much of the world came to a stop in the face of the COVID-19 crisis, one thing that did not was corruption on a global scale.

In 2020, Transparency International received more than 1,500 reports of corruption related to COVID-19 from citizens witnessing wrongdoing in a number of areas, including the delivery of humanitarian aid, the enforcement of restrictions on travel and movement, and in the provision of COVID-19 testing and treatment.

According to data from SIGWATCH, activist groups have also been making their voices heard. In the past year, they have been calling for more government action, cross-border solutions, and greater enforcement to tackle the growing issue of corruption.

As part of its ongoing monitoring of developments in anti-bribery and anti-corruption efforts, Ethixbase360 has published a round-up of initiatives being rolled out across the globe.

The new eBook will help you get up to speed on:

  • NGO campaigning actions and sentiment driving anti-bribery and corruption legislation globally
  • New regulations and developments that compliance teams need to have on their radar
  • Guidance on how to prepare for new legislation and safeguard your reputation
  • How Ethixbase360 can help your organisation successfully implement effective risk and compliance programs to identify, mitigate and manage risks posed by third-parties.

“Bribery and corruption can happen anywhere in the world and in any organisation. As we saw during the 2007 recession, difficult economic times increase the likelihood of misconduct. Similarly, the economic downturn sparked by the recent COVID-19 pandemic has acted as fertile ground for bribery, corruption and fraud. As the world begins to recover from the pandemic, instances of misconduct carried out behind closed doors since March 2020 will begin to surface. To prevent and manage such risks, having an effective risk management system in place is absolutely necessary – and can even help mitigate issues yet to come to light. Regardless of how prevalent bribery and corruption risks may be in your industry, a well-prepared organisation will be able to efficiently navigate the road ahead.”
